Spines with gilt butterfly ornaments and red and black labels; top edge gilt. With 3 engraved titles of which 2 coloured and 3 full page engravings showing instruments to catch and to fasten butterflies with 24 pp. of instructions, and 350 hand coloured engraved plates. (342 numbered plates and 8 supplemental plates which are not mentioned in Nissen: 1300.)
Very nice copy with wide margins. Very rare edition limited to ca. 250 copies (In part III / IV are 215 subscribers listed.) Engravings by J.J. Juillet (and others) after J.J. Ernst and by F.L.Schwebach Desfontaines after Marie Eleonore Honecker (and others). The seventh part lacks title. Engraved plates in excellent condition; some text leaves somewhat browned and a few pages slightly waterstained in the margins.
